Inane ravings of an irreverent slacker

Your sporatic inspirational video

Posted by Jeff on August 9, 2008

I may be a science nerd, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate the beauty of the spoken word. The clever turn of a phrase can turn me on nearly as much as superstrings and singularities. Before you watch this video, I have a confession to make…

Not a lot of people really know this about me, but I am – by birth and by upbringing – a Southerner. Not a lot of people realize that because I don’t fit the standard southerner stereotype. “What stereotype is that??” you might ask… Well, I’m afraid that most people see southerners as uneducated, racist hicks. Now, don’t get me wrong, the south has a TON of uneducated, racist hicks. But so does everywhere else. The difference? Hicks in Maine don’t have a southern accent…

So I’m going to Stanford, I’m not racist, and I’m not a hick. Hell, I don’t even have a Southern accent. What can I say, I just never picked it up… So seriously, people, let’s give Southerners the benefit of the doubt. We’re not all slack-jawed bigots with a cousin fetish…

I snatched this video from Dana at En Tequila es Verdad. Thanks!
